The Pain of the Game – Lack of Stadium Seat Comfort
We have all been there. You are at the bottom of the ninth inning or the final quarter of a tie game. The energy is electric, and the crowd is roaring. However, instead of focusing on the play, you are shifting your weight from left to right. You are trying to find relief from the cold, hard slab of aluminum beneath you. Long story short, you leave commenting on the lack of stadium seat comfort instead of the game winning play.

My name is Nicole Stanley, and I am the founder of Soft Ass Seating. As a student at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business, I realized that attending live events shouldn’t come with a physical cost. Here is the story of how a personal observation turned into a mission to bring stadium seat comfort to the masses.
Where is Stadium Seat Comfort: Watching My Father Struggle
The spark for Soft Ass Seating didn’t come from a textbook. It came from watching my dad. My father has struggled with back problems for years. Despite his pain, he loves attending concerts, hockey games, and a multitude of other events. However, the stadium experience was always a battle for him.
I watched him improvise every time we went to a game. For instance, he would sit on folded coats, bags, or anything else he could find to soften the blow of those unforgiving bleachers. It broke my heart to see him in pain during moments that were supposed to be joyful.
I realized he wasn’t alone. This article, https://www.conceptseating.com/resources/news-knowledge/blog/dangers-of-sitting-in-an-uncomfortable-chair-for-too-long/ , shows it is a common struggle among us that leads to serious physical ailments. In fact, look around any arena, and you will see thousands of people struggling with the same issue. We pay high prices for tickets, yet we are expected to sit on uncomfortable surfaces for hours. Finally, I knew there had to be a better way. There had to be an accessible way for everyone to enjoy their event with stadium seat comfort.
Connecting with the Crowd
Once the idea formed, I needed to validate it. I started talking to fans at local events. One interaction stood out clearly. I spoke with a mother of two at a football game. She was trying to wrangle her kids while holding a flimsy foam pad she had brought from home.
She told me, “I almost threw this away at the gate because I wasn’t sure if it was allowed. I just wish I could rent something comfortable here so I didn’t have to carry it.”
To me, that feedback was gold. It highlighted a massive gap in the market. People crave comfort, but they hate the hassle. They don’t want to carry bulky items, and they certainly don’t want to navigate complex bag policies with a cushion under their arm.
The Challenge and the Pivot
Bringing this idea to life hasn’t been a straight line. The biggest hurdle we faced early on was venue security regulations.
Originally, I thought about selling high-end cushions for fans to bring with them. However, we quickly hit a wall. Modern venues have strict rules. Clear bag policies and size restrictions make it nearly impossible for fans to bring in their own quality seating.

Consequently we had to pivot. Instead of a “bring-your-own” model, we shifted to a rental and vending model. By placing Soft Ass Seating rentals inside the venue, we bypass the security headache entirely. Ultimately this shift solved the logistical problem and added a layer of convenience that our customers love. Stadium seat comfort there for you anywhere, anytime, and at a good price.
Our Values and Vision
At Soft Ass Seating, our core values are simple: Comfort, Convenience, and Affordability.
We believe that you shouldn’t have to break the bank to save your back. Furthermore, VIP treatment should not be reserved for the luxury boxes. Our vision is to democratize comfort. We want to ensure that the only memory you take home from a Friday night game is the score, not how stiff you feel the next morning.
We are solving a global problem with a local touch. Whether it is a high school championship or a professional showdown, every fan deserves a soft landing.
A Look Ahead
So, what is next for Soft Ass Seating? The next three to six months are going to be incredibly busy.
First, we are finalizing our prototypes. This includes our new Team Spirit Cushion and the Ultimate Relaxation Cushion (complete with cup holders!). Next, we are launching a pilot program at a local venue to test our rental kiosk system.
You can check out our progress here https://sasco.bizlaunchuniversity.com/shop/ as we strive to keep bringing event goers the comfort they want and deserve.
Overall, we are excited to get these cushions out of the design phase and under the fans who need them most. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Stay tuned, and get ready to sit back and relax!
